This month, 18Karat's blog turns two-years old and to celebrate, we are teaming up with a very talented Toronto designer and goldsmith - Eric Petersen - for a g-i-v-e-a-w-a-y!

We first met Eric earlier this year and were impressed by not only his jewellery collection, but also his determination and drive.

Titled Shattered Heart from the collection Picking Up the Pieces - a collection that explores how seemingly undesirable, unattractive, and even disposable items can be made beautiful. This collection features shards of glass from a broken window, transformed into a stunning focal point.

Unknown said...: The idea behind the necklace is breathtaking because the shards of glass can take on a lot of meanings. So, the beauty of this creation lies beyond what the eyes can see. Although I think the necklace is too long, the appeal is still there.

It amazes me to imagine all the things people can create with custom jewellery. I've been to several jewellery stores (Calgary), and I think that the custom designs displayed have meaning. I can somewhat see the mindset of the person who thought of the design, and that's why I'm fond of them.

I've ordered a couple of necklaces from jewellery stores in Calgary, and until now I'm happy with my purchase. I let my friends guess what's story behind the design and material I chose, and the fun starts there. Right now, for my next necklace, I'm thinking of a design that's related to Christmas but not limited to that season.; November 2, 2010 at 12:44 AM
